My Story...
Where does one begin? Let us go back in time… it is the year 2018...
I had been a qualified specialist teacher for pupils with Severe & Complex Learning Difficulties in an Inner London Special Needs School for over 15 years. Still possessing the great passion I had for my career, my field of study and the advancement of my students since the onset, I was left burnt-out and close to personal breakdown after subjecting myself to many years of pressure in achieving all there was to achieve in this field of study and pushing myself beyond my own limits to excel to attain the highest level of influence and position within my school. I knew that for the sake of my own health and wellbeing a desperate change was inevitable. I constantly found myself asking the question whether I was still doing what I was called to do. As a Christian believer I took this question to God and felt Him directing me to the following bible scripture:
Ezekiel 37:5-6 “Watch this: I’m bringing the breath of life to you and you’ll come to life… You’ll come alive and you’ll realize that I am God!”
After lengthy discussions and quite a few teary moments spent before God, I felt God prompting me to be brave and take a leap of faith by taking a break from my professional career. That thought scared me and it was quite daunting and a very difficult decision to get to but I knew that it was from God and necessary to bring me into a closer relationship with Him. I felt the need to surrender all to God and allow Him to breathe His breath of life into my dry bones. I had always been described by people close to me as a ‘Protective Mother Hen looking after her Chicks’ but I had never been great at allowing people to care for me. I knew that I was entering a season where I indeed needed to surrender and take rest in God's ‘nest of care’ and allow Him to restore me as He saw fit.
That moment brought the birth of Breathe Life Designs.
It was such a defining moment when I realised what God was busy doing in my life, that I was able to replicate it through my passion for the arts, crafts and creativity. As God was busy breathing His new life into me I felt inspired to portray this by breathing new life into whatever my hands found to do… I started up-cycling old furniture and also created new things from reclaimed raw materials.
Let us fast forward to February 2020…
Hard to believe but I travelled to South Africa on a month or so long holiday to spend some well overdue time visiting my family, when a few weeks into the holiday a National Lockdown was announced by the government and I was unable to normally return home to the United Kingdom without the additional excessive expenditure on a repatriation flight. This was, like you are aware, due to the COVID-19 virus infection spreading throughout the country and the whole world where life as we knew it came grinding to a halt!
Being stranded away from home I had realised just how much I missed being creative but even more importantly I had realised that I was unable to serve my clients in the United Kingdom the way we were used to. No more making of personalised crafts and selling it on Etsy or up-cycling old furniture!
The birth of a new venture… I had always enjoyed creating logos or playing around with such creative ideas and then one evening on impulse I enrolled myself for an Online Graphic Design Course. I thought, at the time, that it was a good idea to invest in myself by branching out within my business a new skill set to over time broaden the reach and adding value to my clients... in effect adding another egg to my basket!
Now, let us step into the present!
I am delighted to announce that I have successfully completed a Diploma in Graphic Design and am thrilled to admit how much I like this new branch of creativity through my business! Learning something new is the order of the day as I evolve with and enjoy this new venture! I feel so blessed to be in the position to continue in doing what I love!
I am passionate about my life and my business by continuing to build on and develop this 'Breathe Life' Design Adventure!
I hope that you find something of interest that will Breathe New Life into you as a person, into your home or into your business.
May God Bless you as abundantly as He blesses me by living out my passion – Designing Something Beautifully Unique!
